Probation Violations
When someone is facing criminal charges in the State of Ohio, one of the options that the presiding judge has at his disposal once a defendant is found guilty or pleads guilty is to sentence the defendant to a term of probation. This is a privilege that allows the individual to avoid having to be incarcerated for an extended period of time and not have to go through all the trauma and loss that such an experience entails. But probation comes with a set of obligations that must be strictly met or it could be revoked. Every case is different so the terms of probation differ to varying degrees for every defendant. For instance, a person who was convicted of an offense that had something to do with alcohol might be required to stay away from alcohol altogether, whereas a person who is convicted of domestic violence may not be allowed to have any contact with the victim. Failing to follow these guidelines or others, such as not attending an appointment with your probation officer, can get you charged with one or more probation violations and perhaps even get you new charges for other offenses.

Possible outcomes
At Kruger & Hodges, we understand that a probation violation is a serious matter that can cost you your freedom. Any new charges can add time to the original sentence and the time that you have been on probation may not be allowed to count toward the sentence. We will look at all the circumstances surrounding what occurred in order to come up with the best strategy to defend you in a court of law and get you the best possible outcome.
